Automatic Transmission
Operation: Turn the left handwheel to select different gears; then turn the right handwheel at a constant speed and observe why the wheel model rotates at different speeds in different gears? Function Overview: The exhibit consists of an automatic transmission demonstration mechanism and an operating device. By changing gears and turning the handwheel, visitors can obtain different wheel speeds, demonstrating the working principle of an automatic transmission. Scientific Principle: Why do gear speeds vary with different gears? An automatic transmission is a special planetary gear transmission. It is composed of an outer ring gear set, planetary gear set, clutch set, and other components. During operation, by changing the engagement states of the clutches (shifting), different constraints are applied to the sun gear and planetary gear carrier, thereby altering the transmission paths between gear sets and changing the transmission ratio between the input and output shafts.
