Lens Windmill Turntable

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Visual simulation of eye diseases, eye health education, visual impairment experience ★Interaction: Mechanical interaction ★Operation: Manually rotate the colorful windmill turntable to bring the pathological lenses marked with different colors into the viewing position, align with the standard eye chart on the wall for observation, and experience one by one the visual effects of six eye diseases: myopia, hyperopia, macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma, and floaters, intuitively feeling the visual disturbances caused by different eye diseases. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit is a floor-standing mechanical interactive science popularization exhibit. It combines 16 lenses simulating the visual effects of different eye diseases in a windmill shape mounted on a rotatable stand, and is a recommended exhibit for the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. Visitors manually rotate the windmill to align different lenses with the standard eye chart on the wall for observation, personally experiencing the blurred vision caused by myopia and hyperopia, the hazy feeling of cataract, the black shadow interference of floaters, and the visual field defects of macular degeneration and glaucoma, thereby enhancing eye care awareness, understanding the inconvenience in the lives of eye disease patients, and building a scientific understanding of eye health and empathy for the eye disease community. ★Scientific Principle: This exhibit uses custom pathological visual simulation lenses to accurately reproduce the visual characteristics of different eye diseases: Myopia/Hyperopia: Due to refractive errors, parallel light rays cannot focus on the retina, simulating the visual effect of blurred vision, understanding the necessity of refractive correction; Cataract: Blurred vision and decreased contrast caused by lens opacity; Floaters: Black shadows and flocculent interference caused by vitreous opacity; Macular degeneration/Glaucoma: Visual field defects, loss of central/peripheral vision caused by retinal and optic nerve damage. Through lens simulation, the pathological impact of eye diseases on vision is intuitively presented, allowing healthy people to immersively experience the visual world of eye disease patients and understand the importance of eye health.
