Pinhole Imaging

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Straight-line propagation of light, pinhole imaging principle, optical imaging science popularization ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Press the start button to turn on the light source, adjust the position of the pinhole baffle and the imaging screen back and forth until a clear inverted arrow image is seen on the imaging plate, and intuitively observe the effect and principle of pinhole imaging. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of an arrow-shaped light source made of LED lights, a convex lens with focusing function, a movable pinhole baffle, a movable imaging screen baffle, etc. It is a recommended exhibit for the KexMall exhibit mall, used to demonstrate the principle of pinhole imaging. After pressing the switch button, participants turn on the light source and adjust the pinhole position back and forth until a clear inverted image is seen on the imaging plate, personally experiencing the imaging phenomenon formed by the straight-line propagation of light, understanding the scientific essence of pinhole imaging, and learning basic knowledge of optics. ★Scientific Principle: Light propagates in a straight line in the same uniform medium without interference from gravitational effects. Pinhole imaging utilizes the principle of straight-line propagation of light. A plate with a small hole is placed between a wall and an object, and an inverted image of the object is formed on the wall. About two thousand years ago, the Chinese scholar Mo Di (Mozi) conducted the world's first experiment on inverted imaging with a pinhole, explained the imaging principle, and pointed out the property of light traveling in a straight line. This is the earliest scientific explanation of the straight-line propagation of light.
