Peep at the Leopard Through a Tube

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Polarized light principle, LCD optical principle, science popularization of light polarization ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Press the start button and directly observe the specially treated LCD screen; at this time, the screen is only white. Then use the built-in polarizer "magnifying glass" aimed at the screen to observe, and you can clearly see the animation of a running leopard, intuitively experiencing the effect of the polarizer on the LCD display. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a multimedia playback system, a specially treated LCD display device, and a "magnifying glass" observation device with a built-in polarizer. It is a recommended exhibit for the KexMall exhibit mall. When viewed directly, only a white area is visible on the screen; when observed with the "magnifying glass", the animation content (a leopard running) can be clearly seen. Through fun interaction, this exhibit transforms abstract polarized light and LCD principles into a visual and tactile experience, allowing visitors to understand the core role of polarizers in LCD displays and learn basic optical knowledge. ★Scientific Principle: There are two polarizers in an LCD screen: an incident polarizer and an exit polarizer. When the polarization directions of the incident and exit polarizers are at a 90° angle, applying voltage to the liquid crystal blocks light from exiting, while no voltage allows light to exit; when the incident and exit polarizers are parallel, applying voltage allows light to exit, while no voltage blocks the light. This exhibit removes the exit polarizer of the LCD screen, so the image cannot be seen when viewed directly; the polarizer inside the "magnifying glass" can replace the exit polarizer, allowing light to pass normally, thereby clearly seeing the screen content, perfectly illustrating the optical principles of polarized light and LCD displays.
