Polarized Maze
★Exhibit Content: Polarization of Light ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Use the magnet to control the ball's movement; 2. See who can move the ball to the center the fastest. ★Exhibit Description: Through interactive means, this exhibit demonstrates the polarization of light and the working principle of polarizers, and is recommended for the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The platform is filled with a maze made of tubes, with multiple entrances. During interaction, when moving the ball, you will find that in some cylinders the ball can pass through the baffle, while in others it cannot; this is actually a visual illusion. Some cylinders have polarizing film attached to the walls, appearing like baffles, but there are no actual baffles, so the ball can pass through; in some cylinders, there are real baffles, so the ball cannot pass through. ★Scientific Principle: Inside the maze, we placed two polarizing films perpendicular to each other. Polarizers only allow light parallel to the polarization direction to pass while filtering out light vibrating in other directions. When light hits two perpendicular polarizing films, it cannot pass through that area, forming a dark zone that looks like a virtual wall. Thus, we have this polarizing maze combining real and fake walls before us.
