Changing Scenery

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Polarization of Light ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: Look through the lens in the turntable at the landscape painting in the light box, and you will find that the black-and-white picture becomes a color picture. Rotate the turntable, and the colors of the landscape painting will change. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a black-and-white line drawing light box and a turntable device, etc. It is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. When visitors look directly at the light box, they will see a landscape painting outlined in black lines; when visitors look through the transparent glass on the turntable, they will find that the line drawing becomes a color picture; if they rotate the turntable, they will find that the color picture can also change colors, which is very magical! ★Scientific Principle: Why does the color presented by the landscape painting change when viewed through this layer of lens? A polarizing film is embedded on the side near the light source inside the light box, so the emitted light is polarized light. The outermost side of the light box is covered with transparent films of different thicknesses, and a polarizing film is attached to the inner side of the turntable. Because films of different thicknesses refract polarized light to different degrees, when the turntable is rotated, the polarizing film inside the turntable polarizes the polarization direction of the light, and the light will display different colors and brightness.
