Path of Light

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Optical Lenses ★Interaction: Electromechanical Interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the "Start" button to turn on the laser; 2. Turn the handwheel to rotate the optical element and observe the light characteristics of the optical element; 3. Use your hand to turn the dial to switch between multiple optical elements. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of 8 types of optical elements including concave and convex lenses, concave and convex mirrors, right-angle prisms, wedge prisms, pentaprisms, and parallel glass bricks, a laser light source, and an operating handwheel. It demonstrates light divergence, convergence, reflection, refraction, translation, and other changes, thereby helping to understand the characteristics of optical elements. Recommended exhibit for the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. ★Scientific Principle: Light undergoes refraction, diffraction, and other phenomena due to differences in lens shape and refractive index, presenting distinctive propagation paths. Concave lenses diverge light, while convex lenses converge light. When parallel light passes through these two types of lenses, significant changes in light direction can be observed. Parallel glass lenses do not change the direction of light but cause a slight displacement of the light, which is due to the different intersection positions of the light with the lens surfaces upon entering and exiting the lens. Triangular prisms can decompose white light into a spectrum of different colors, while wedge prisms can deflect light.
