Persistence of Vision

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Science popularization of persistence of vision and electromechanical interactive experience ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Visitors press the corresponding button to start the LED disc module. Through the rapidly switching sequence of light points, they can intuitively experience the persistence of vision phenomenon, observe the "continuous afterimage" of light points on the retina, and understand the imaging principle of film and animation. ★Exhibit Overview: The exhibit consists of multiple sets of LED fan screens. It is a recommended exhibit for the KexMall exhibit mall. Through multiple independent LED discs and interactive buttons, it vividly presents the persistence of vision effect of the human eye. Visitors operate the buttons to start the device and observe the continuous patterns formed by the rapid movement of light points, intuitively understanding how the brief retention of light signals on the retina converts discrete frames into continuous dynamic images, and experiencing the application of this phenomenon in visual media such as film and animation. ★Scientific Principle: Persistence of vision is the phenomenon where the visual perception produced by light on the retina persists for a period after the light stops acting. Its specific application is in the shooting and projection of films. The reason is due to the reaction speed of the optic nerve. It is the basis for the formation and dissemination of visual media such as animation and film. Vision actually relies on the lens of the eye to form images, photoreceptor cells to sense light, and convert light signals into neural currents, which are transmitted back to the brain to cause human vision. The light sensing of photoreceptor cells relies on some photopigments. The formation of photopigments requires a certain amount of time, which forms the mechanism of persistence of vision.
