See the Dinosaurs

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Visual illusion, stereoscopic vision, and human visual perception science popularization static observation interactive experience ★Interaction: Visual illusion model interaction ★Operation: Slowly move around the dinosaur model, observing it from different angles: left, right, front, and side. No matter which side you stand on, you will experience the visual effect that the dinosaur's eyes are always staring at you. Think about the underlying principle of this illusion. ★Exhibit Description: "Look at the Dinosaur" is a desktop science popularization exhibit on the theme of visual illusions, belonging to the visual physiology and optical cognition exhibition area, and is a recommended exhibit by the KexMall exhibit mall. The exhibit uses a light gray curved floor-standing base, on which a three-dimensional concave dinosaur paper model is placed. The model's head is concave, with a complete dinosaur color painting printed on the surface, and is accompanied by an acrylic UV-printed science popularization sign. Visitors change their observation angle by moving, directly experiencing the classic concave three-dimensional illusion, analyzing the physiological mechanisms of human brain visual processing and binocular stereoscopic imaging, breaking the judgment bias brought by visual experience, and vividly explaining knowledge related to visual illusions. ★Scientific Principle: 1. Basics of stereoscopic vision: Human eyes observe objects and obtain two images with parallax, which the brain fuses to perceive the distance and stereoscopic depth of objects; 2. Cause of visual illusion: The dinosaur head of this exhibit is an inward concave structure. The human brain, based on daily visual experience, automatically fills in the concave figure as a protruding three-dimensional head; when the visitor moves, the perspective of the facial features on the concave face changes synchronously, and the brain continuously judges that the dinosaur's face is directly facing the observer, forming the peculiar illusion that "the dinosaur's eyes are always staring at the observer"; 3. Definition of visual illusion: The observer, disturbed by psychology, reference objects, and picture structure, produces visual judgments inconsistent with objective facts. This exhibit is a classic demonstration case of geometric concave visual illusion.
