Visual Blind Spot
★Exhibit Content: The formation principle of the human eye's visual blind spot, physiological science popularization of retinal photoreceptor cells, human-machine interactive experience ★Interaction: Monocular observation, push-pull joystick to move target pattern, search for visual disappearance point interaction ★Operation: 1. Close your left eye, and with your right eye, look through the observation hole at the target pattern on the left. 2. Pull the operating lever to move the right pattern back and forth, slowly adjust the position, and find the position where the right pattern disappears from the field of view. 3. Swap left and right eyes, repeat the above operation, and compare the difference in blind spot positions between the two eyes. ★Exhibit Description: "Visual Blind Spot" is a desktop science popularization exhibit on the theme of human eye physiological optics, belonging to the life sciences and visual physiology science popularization exhibition area, and a recommended exhibit by the KexMall exhibit mall. The exhibit uses a white and blue square sheet metal desktop cabinet, with a colored + high-transparency acrylic protective cover on the tabletop. Inside the cover, a T-shaped operating lever that can slide back and forth and observation markers are arranged. The tabletop is equipped with a directional control joystick, and the cabinet interior is equipped with a manual sliding transmission mechanism. By moving the observation target, the exhibit allows visitors to personally find the position where the pattern disappears from the field of view, intuitively verifying the objective existence of the human eye's blind spot, explaining the retinal structure and visual imaging principles, and revealing the physiological reason why no visual field gap appears when observing objects with both eyes. ★Scientific Principle: 1. There are no photoreceptor cells at the location where the optic nerve fibers converge in the human eye. When an object's image is projected onto this area, no visual signal can be generated and transmitted to the brain. This area is the visual blind spot. 2. When observing an object with one eye, there is a blind spot in the field of view; the blind spot positions of the left and right eyes do not overlap. The image in the blind spot area of one eye is normally observed by the other eye, so in daily binocular vision, no visual field defect is perceived.
