Mirror Polyhedron

Optics & Eye Health

★Exhibit Content: Specular reflection of light, geometric optics of regular polyhedra ★Interaction: Physical operation and observation, optical mirror interaction ★Operation: 1. Place the model between the mirrors at an appropriate angle; 2. Through the observation window, observe the geometric solid formed by the combination of the physical model and the mirror images. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit consists of a cabinet, multiple sets of mutually perpendicular reflective mirrors, an observation window, a storage slot for geometric models, and accompanying geometric models. Participants place scattered geometric components, and by utilizing multiple reflections from the plane mirrors, the incomplete model and its mirror images combine to form a complete regular polyhedron. This provides an intuitive understanding of the laws of light reflection, allows appreciation of the beauty of symmetrical geometry, and introduces solid structures such as truncated cubes and truncated octahedra. ★Scientific Principle: The two sets of mirrors at the top of the exhibit are mutually perpendicular, and the two sets at the bottom are also mutually perpendicular. The images reflected by each set of mirrors can coincide. When the model is placed in the mirror area, the four mirrors continuously reflect in pairs, and the reflected images from the top, front, left, and right directions combine with the physical object to form a complete regular polyhedron.
