Automotive Engine

Life & Safety

★Exhibit Content: The law of reciprocating piston motion and the working principle of an engine's crank-connecting rod mechanism ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: Press the start button, alternately insert the air hose into the two intake ports of the cylinder, and observe the reciprocating motion of the piston and the rotation of the flywheel. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a square display platform, a cylinder-piston assembly, a crank-connecting rod mechanism, a flywheel device, an air supply hose, and a start button. It is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Mall. The platform features a transparent, visible cylinder transmission structure and is equipped with a dual-intake pneumatic drive system. After the visitor presses the start button and alternately inserts the air hose into the two intake ports of the cylinder, pressurized gas pushes the piston to perform linear reciprocating motion within the cylinder, which in turn drives the connecting rod mechanism, ultimately causing the flywheel to rotate continuously in one direction. This intuitively demonstrates the conversion of linear motion into rotational motion and helps visitors understand the core mechanical principle of engines. ★Scientific Principle: The crank-connecting rod mechanism is the core structure of power machinery. Its function is to convert the linear reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the flywheel, thereby converting pressure energy into mechanical energy. When gas at a certain pressure is supplied to one side of the cylinder, the gas pressure forces the piston to move to the other side; by continuously alternating the intake direction, the piston performs continuous linear reciprocating motion within the cylinder, which in turn drives the connecting rod to swing back and forth. Since the other end of the connecting rod is fixed at an eccentric position on the flywheel disk, the reciprocating linear force is converted into the circular motion of the flywheel, causing the flywheel to rotate continuously in one direction. This principle is the basis for the operation of various power engines such as internal combustion engines and steam engines, and is widely used in industry and transportation.
