Mirror Cube

Medium Exhibit Stands · Optics

Operation: Turn the handwheel to control the inclined plate moving up and down, and observe the changes in the image on the mirror surface. Function Overview: The exhibit consists of a mirror assembly made of a set of fully reflective flat mirrors and an inclined plate in the middle. LED strips are installed on the inclined plate. Turning the handwheel drives the inclined plate to move up and down, and a cube shape is formed in the mirror assembly model. Scientific Principle: Why does a triangular plate become a cube under the reflection of the mirrors? As the handwheel turns, the protruding inclined plate becomes an increasingly larger right isosceles triangle. With the inclined plate as the boundary, the two upper mirror surfaces are perpendicular to each other, and the two lower mirror surfaces are also perpendicular to each other. Because the mirror surfaces are perpendicular to each other, the images they reflect coincide. Through this special design, a complete face of the "cube" can be reflected between the inclined plate and the two adjacent mirrors. The four mirrors intersect in pairs, so the top, front, left, and right faces of the "cube" can be seen. Since at most three faces of a cube can be seen at the same time, as the inclined plate moves up and down, the "cube" appears accordingly. If the angle of the mirrors is adjusted, how will the image change? After going home, try it with several mirrors at angles such as 60°, 90°, and 120°.
