Simulated Lightning
Operation: Press the "Start" button and observe the discharge phenomenon on the metal rod. Function Overview: This exhibit uses the principle of high-voltage tip discharge, combined with scene model rendering and electroacoustic assistance, to simulate the process of lightning discharging from the cloud to a protruding object on the ground and producing thunder. Scientific Principle: The distribution of electric charge on a conductor is related to its surface shape. At sharp points on the conductor's surface, the charge distribution is denser. When the charge accumulates to a certain density, a strong electric field is generated, breaking down the air. The exhibit has two electrodes, one connected to high voltage and the other grounded. Under the action of the strong electric field, the air near the tips of the two sharp needles is ionized, producing discharge sparks and a crackling sound.
