Electric Motor Principle

Medium Exhibit Stands · Electromagnetism

Operation: Press the start button, toggle the handle to bring the magnet close to the motor coil, and observe the motor's status. Function Overview: The exhibit consists of a disassembled motor model. Press the start button, toggle the handle to bring the magnet close to the motor coil, causing the motor to run. Conversely, when the visitor toggles the handle to move the magnet away from the motor coil, the running motor stops. Scientific Principle: A motor is a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Its principle is: when the motor's stator (coil) is energized, it generates a magnetic field. This magnetic field generated by the stator cuts through the closed conductor of the rotor, inducing a current in the rotor. This current flowing through the rotor conductor generates a magnetic field on the rotor that repels the stator's magnetic field (this process is called mutual induction). The interaction of these two mutually repelling magnetic fields drives the motor to rotate.
