Maglev Globe
Operation: View directly. Function Overview: The exhibit demonstrates the principle of magnetic levitation through a magnetic levitation globe. The magnetic levitation globe uses the magnetic effect of current to make the globe float in mid-air. There is a magnet at the top of the globe, and a metal coil at the top inside the circular plastic frame. When current passes through the metal coil, it becomes an electromagnet. The repulsive force between the electromagnet and the magnet at the top of the globe can offset the gravity on the globe, so the globe can float in mid-air. Gently touch the globe to deviate it from the equilibrium position; after releasing, the globe can still return to the equilibrium position without falling, which utilizes a negative feedback mechanism.
