The Flying Bowl

Medium Exhibit Stands · Mechanics & Kinematics

Operation: 1. Place the "bowl" in the designated position; 2. Press the "Start" button and observe the changes in the bowl's state. Functional Overview: This exhibit consists of a display box, an instruction sign, a support frame, a fan, a control system, and a bowl model. When visitors press the start button, it demonstrates the following phenomenon: a bowl-shaped hemisphere, lifted by the force of the wind, rises into the air, just like a flying bowl suspended in midair. Scientific Principle: Why does the bowl fly? According to Bernoulli's principle: the faster the fluid flow, the lower the pressure; the slower the flow, the higher the pressure. When the fan starts, the vertical upward airflow lifts the bowl and moves it upward along the center of the airflow. The airflow at the bottom of the bowl is fast and the pressure is low, so it can hover steadily in the air. In daily life, the lift that makes airplanes fly, the banana kick in football, and the curve ball in table tennis are all applications of Bernoulli's principle. The discovery of Bernoulli's principle is of great significance for humanity's understanding of the characteristics and laws of fluids.
