Iron-Powder Ferrofluid
★Exhibit Content: Interactive Science Experience on Comparison of Magnetic Material Properties ★Interaction: Mechanical Interaction + Comparative Experiment ★Operation: 1. Visitors approach the exhibit and read the operation instructions; 2. Use a magnet to attract iron sand, iron powder, and ferrofluid from the bottom of the tube onto the tube wall; 3. Move the magnet and observe the various changes of the same substance under different states. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit features three sets of experimental devices, each containing iron sand, iron powder, and ferrofluid. It mainly demonstrates the different properties of ferrofluid compared to other magnetic materials. By moving the magnet, visitors can observe the changes in different magnetic materials under an external magnetic field, and intuitively experience the unique properties of ferrofluid, which combines liquid fluidity with solid magnetism. ★Scientific Principle: Ferrofluid, also known as magnetic liquid, ferromagnetic fluid, or magnetic fluid, possesses both the fluidity of a liquid and the magnetism of a solid magnetic material. It is a stable colloidal liquid composed of magnetic solid particles with diameters on the nanometer scale (below 10 nanometers), a carrier liquid, and a surfactant. In static conditions, the fluid has no magnetic attraction; it only exhibits magnetism when an external magnetic field is applied. Traditional magnetic materials such as iron sand and iron powder, when subjected to an external magnetic field, are attracted and align along the direction of the magnetic field, displaying different aggregation forms.
