Longitudinal Wave

Vibration & Waves

★Exhibit Content: Principle of Longitudinal Wave Motion ★Interaction: Mechanical Interactive Demonstration ★Operation: Push the handle and observe the transmission characteristics of longitudinal waves. ★Exhibit Description: The exhibit consists of a display stand, a protective cover, and an interactive longitudinal wave demonstration mechanism. It is a recommended exhibit from the KexMall. Visitors push the handle to generate longitudinal waves, and through the demonstration device, the transmission effect of longitudinal waves can be observed. ★Scientific Principle: When vibration propagates in a medium, there are two forms. One is called P-wave, also known as longitudinal wave. The characteristic of this wave is that when propagating in a medium, the direction of wave propagation is consistent with the direction of particle vibration; the other is called S-wave, also known as transverse wave. The characteristic of this wave is that when propagating in a medium, the direction of wave propagation is perpendicular to the direction of particle vibration. In a transverse wave, the raised parts are called crests, and the depressed parts are called troughs. Wavelength usually refers to the distance between two adjacent crests or troughs. Electromagnetic waves and light waves are transverse waves. Solids have shear elasticity, so transverse waves can propagate in solids, while longitudinal waves can propagate in solids, liquids, and gases.
