Discovering Electromagnetic Waves
★Exhibit Content: Emission, reception, and propagation of electromagnetic waves ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the start button to activate the electromagnetic wave transmitter; 2. Push the joystick left and right to control the distance between the copper ring and the electromagnetic wave transmitter, and observe the brightness of the bulb (neon bulb). ★Exhibit Description: "Discovering Electromagnetic Waves" is an interactive exhibit for science popularization of electromagnetics, designed for physics science exhibition areas, and is also a recommended exhibit of PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The exhibit simulates the experiment of scientist Hertz, reproducing the emission and reception process of electromagnetic waves. The main devices are enclosed in a transparent protective cover, with the core consisting of an electromagnetic wave transmitter and a copper ring (receiver) embedded with a neon bulb. Visitors press the start button, the electromagnetic wave transmitter begins to work, and push the joystick to control the distance between the copper ring and the transmitter. When the position is appropriate, the neon bulb in the center of the copper ring lights up, visually demonstrating the reception effect of electromagnetic waves. ★Scientific Principle: Electromagnetic waves are oscillating particle waves emitted by in-phase oscillating and mutually perpendicular electric and magnetic fields derived in space, propagating in wave form, and their intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance. The closed loop formed by the copper ring and the bulb acts as an electromagnetic wave receiver. Under the action of electromagnetic waves, an induced current is generated, causing the bulb to light up; the closer the distance, the stronger the induced current, and the brighter the bulb, and vice versa. Through simulated experiments, this exhibit allows visitors to intuitively understand the emission, reception, and propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves, recreating the discovery process of electromagnetic waves.

★Exhibit Content: Experience the reception of electromagnetic waves by holding a receiving handle, and intuitively understand the science of electromagnetic wave emission and reception ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Pick up the yellow receiving handle on the tabletop; 2. Aim the handle at the electromagnetic wave emission disc on the wall; 3. Observe the brightness change of the small bulb on the handle. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit consists of a curved operating table, two sets of handheld receiving handles, and a wall-embedded emission disc, and is a recommended exhibit of PopsciCat Exhibit Store. The wall disc serves as the electromagnetic wave emission end continuously outputting signals. Visitors pick up the receiving handle with indicator light, adjust the relative angle and distance between the handle and the wall disc. The bulb on the handle will change brightness according to the strength of the received electromagnetic wave signal, thereby intuitively demonstrating that electromagnetic waves can propagate in space away from the source, completing the interactive experience of electromagnetic wave emission and reception. ★Scientific Principle: A changing electric field excites a changing magnetic field, and a changing magnetic field excites a changing electric field, alternately exciting to form electromagnetic waves propagating in space. The transmitting device generates an alternating electromagnetic field radiating electromagnetic waves outward. The induction component inside the receiving handle captures the electromagnetic wave energy in space, converts the electromagnetic signal into electrical energy to light the small bulb, thereby simulating Hertz's classic experiment of discovering electromagnetic waves, demonstrating the physical laws of electromagnetic wave propagation and reception.
