Sound-Wave Lifting

Vibration & Waves

★Exhibit Content: Demonstrate ultrasonic standing waves to achieve acoustic levitation of objects, and understand the physical phenomena of standing waves and acoustic radiation force. ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Please press the [Start] button on the exhibit platform. 2. Carefully observe the foam particles inside the transparent protective cover. They will instantly be lifted by an invisible force, defying gravity, suspended in the air, and arranged into an orderly, three-dimensional pattern. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit mainly consists of a square platform, an ultrasonic transducer array module, a lifting actuator, foam levitation particles, a start button, and a transparent protective cover. It is a recommended exhibit from the KexMall exhibit mall. When visitors press the start button, four sets of acoustic wave matrices synchronously emit ultrasonic waves, forming a stable standing wave field inside the chamber. Under the action of acoustic radiation force, the foam particles are trapped at the nodes, overcoming gravity to achieve levitation in the air, arranging into a three-dimensional orderly pattern, intuitively demonstrating the wonderful physical effect that sound can "grab" objects. ★Scientific Principle: Sound is essentially air vibration. This exhibit utilizes acoustic levitation technology. Four sets of acoustic wave matrices emit ultrasonic waves inaudible to the human ear. When sound waves meet and superimpose, standing waves are generated; within the standing wave space, there are low-pressure node regions and high-pressure antinode regions. The acoustic radiation force pushes lightweight foam particles from high-pressure areas to low-pressure node positions. The particles are confined at the nodes of the three-dimensional standing wave field to achieve levitation, proving that sound, in addition to transmitting information, can also generate mechanical force to manipulate objects.
