Electromagnetic Shielding

Vibration & Waves

★Exhibit Content: Through electric drive, move the radio into metal mesh covers with different densities to conduct comparative experiments, intuitively experience electromagnetic shielding phenomenon, and understand the shielding effect of metal on electromagnetic waves. ★Interaction: Electromechanical interaction ★Operation: 1. Press the "Start" button to turn on the exhibit and radio; 2. Press the "Left" button to move the radio under the left metal mesh cover; 3. Observe the change in radio sound, press the "Right" button to move the radio under the right metal mesh cover; 4. Compare the radio playback status under the two mesh covers and observe the electromagnetic shielding phenomenon. ★Exhibit Description: This exhibit consists of an operation console, an electric translation transmission mechanism, two sets of metal cage mesh covers with different densities, a radio, a control button group, and a transparent protective cover. It is a recommended exhibit from the PopsciCat Exhibit Store. Visitors press the start button to turn on the radio, then use the left and right buttons to control the transmission mechanism to move the radio horizontally into the interiors of two metal shielding cages with different mesh specifications. By comparing the changes in radio sound, visitors can intuitively feel the shielding effect of metal conductors on electromagnetic waves through controlled experiments and understand the practical applications of electromagnetic shielding in daily life. ★Scientific Principle: When electromagnetic waves reach the surface of a metal conductor, reflection occurs, and at the same time, absorption loss is generated inside the conductor, hindering the continued transmission of electromagnetic wave energy, thereby achieving electromagnetic shielding. Metal shells and metal meshes can both serve as shielding bodies. The shielding performance is affected by factors such as the type of radiation source, material selection, structural form, and mesh gap size. The mesh size directly determines the shielding effect for electromagnetic waves of different frequencies.
